Way to go, Bird! Hope your last day of school is super-fun and that you have a great summer with your Mom, Dad and Deal. Pretty soon you'll be a great big first grader!

(Cries silent tears in honor of Ilina...picks up poor, unsuspecting toddler and smothers his head with kisses. He will NEVER be big enough for kindergarten, right? RIGHT?)

Congratulations Bird! Always wear your bike helmet and, when a good song comes on, sing loudly!

Fly Bird, fly. Always remember to be nice to the ladies. They rule the world.

Congratulations, Bird!!!

I don't have much advice except to be nice to everyone, even if they are different from you. I have a feeling your mama already taught you that though.

Have a wonderful summer!

Gods, so long ago.

It's only a blink before you'll be dropping him off at college, as I did mine this weekend.

We left him a bike, too. Not sure if he took a helmet. Any bets?

As a former teacher, my best advice is to introduce yourself to your teachers (esp. in college) and be sure they know you want to do well. A little communication can go a long way when you need the benefit of the doubt.

And now as a mommy, I am sticking my fingers in my ears and closing my eyes to the idea that my first baby will be leaving for kindergarten in a year. La la la la la -- can't hear you!

Oh lordy, I can't even look at your picture without popping a tear duct. You'll get it when you have your own little kiddies. Congratulations honey!

Wow, congrats! Time flies, you know, so embrace every moment. I toured UC Berkeley with my daughter yesterday... she applies to college this fall. I can still remember her kindergarten days.

Bird thoroughly enjoyed everyone's words of wisdom. And he's all about some helmet safety. The Mother, you might want to include a helmet in a care package! Many thanks for making my Birdy's day.

Bird - Everything you need to know you learned in kindergarten...

Share everything.

Play fair.

Don't hit people.

Put things back where you found them.

Clean up your own mess.

Don't take things that aren't yours.

Say you're sorry when you hurt somebody.

Wash your hands before you eat.

Flush.

Warm cookies and cold milk are good for you.

Live a balanced life - learn some and think some and draw and paint and sing and dance and play and work every day some.

Take a nap every afternoon.

When you go out in the world, watch out for traffic, hold hands and stick together.

Be aware of wonder. Remember the little seed in the Styrofoam cup: the roots go down and the plant goes up and nobody really knows how or why, but we are all like that.

Goldfish and hamsters and white mice and even the little seed in the Styrofoam cup - they all die. So do we.

And then remember the Dick-and-Jane books and the first word you learned - the biggest word of all - LOOK.

Enjoy your summer!

Late to the game, but congrats Bird. That's a big step, but don't worry, 1st grade is still lots of fun.
